Definitions for Survey Data Collection
- DIVE OFFICE PERSONNEL (dive officers, coordinators, assistants) – Paid staff whose primary job function is managing the dive program at your institution
- STAFF DIVER – Paid staff whose primary job function pertains to diving
- HUSBANDRY/LSS/OTHER DIVING STAFF – Paid staff who dive but whose primary job function pertains to animal care, animal health, or research, not diving
- VOLUNTEER DIVER – Unpaid divers
- IN-HOUSE COMMERCIAL DIVES (non-recreational, non-scientific) – Dives you classify as commercial (per OSHA) or technical (per Cal-OSHA) performed inside your facility’s habitats and supporting infrastructure
- IN-HOUSE SCIENTIFIC DIVES – Dives you classify as scientific (per OSHA) performed inside your facility’s habitats and supporting infrastructure
- FIELD COMMERCIAL DIVES (non-recreational, non-scientific) – Dives you classify as commercial (per OSHA) performed outside your facility’s habitats and supporting infrastructure
- FIELD SCIENTIFIC DIVES – Dives you classify as scientific (per OSHA) performed outside your facility’s habitats and supporting infrastructure
- GUEST/VIP DIVES – Dives you classify as recreational (per OSHA’s Recreational Exclusion) performed inside your facility’s habitats
- HOOKAH DIVES – Dive conducted using the hookah diving mode (Cal-OSHA; AAUS)
- SURFACE SUPPLIED DIVES – Dive conducted using the surface supply diving mode (OSHA)
- TOTAL STAFF DIVES – All dives conducted by any paid employees
- TOTAL VOLUNTEER DIVES – All dives conducted by any Volunteer Divers
- TOTAL DIVES – Sum of the STAFF DIVES and VOLUNTEER DIVES
