Become a DAN Diving First Aid for Professional Divers Instructor

Ready to take your teaching skills to the next level? Join us for the DAN DFA Pro Instructor Qualification course, where you’ll be certified to teach one of the most recognized CPR/First Aid/Dive Injury programs in the industry. Led by Katie Shoultz Cooper and Sean Harper, this workshop is your chance to gain valuable skills and knowledge, all while preparing to lead your own DAN courses. Participants will be qualified to lead all three DAN Courses – DFA Pro, Basic Life Support, and Oxygen Administration. Course descriptions can be found at: https://dan.org/education-events/instructor-led-courses/

All materials included in the DAN IQC Instructor Pack (https://shop.dan.org/collections/trainer-resources/products/little-anne-cpr-manikin-w-qcpr-kit) are required to teach DFA Pro. They will be provided during our workshop, no need to travel with supplies. If your home institution has these materials, register “without backpack.” If you would like the Instructor Pack to be provided to you at DEMA, register “with backpack.”

What to Expect:

  • HOMEWORK: The traditional format of this course is a 2-day workshop. Participants in the ADPA expedited course will have e-learning homework, a mandatory pre-course zoom session, and teaching presentations to prepare prior to arrival. Preparation is key to success.
  • Early Registration: We highly recommend registering early so you can complete the required eLearning before the workshop. Katie will send out all the info you need to get started once you’re signed up.
  • Pre-Class Zoom Session: Before the big day, you’ll meet with Katie in a Zoom session to review key materials and prep for the in-person class.
  • Working lunch: Lunch will not be provided.

This is your opportunity to grow professionally, enhance your teaching credentials, and be part of a community that prioritizes diver safety and education.

Don’t miss out—register early, and let’s dive into this exciting opportunity together!

1:30 PM – 4:30 PM

Join us as we will have Dr. Frauke Tillmans, from DAN who will be speaking about the latest in diving research topics.

Bubble Variability in Individual Divers – This is based on the new bubble study being conducted by DAN.
General CCR Safety – Updates from the mouthpiece retaining straps survey and other related safety developments.
Post-COVID Medical Updates – As a member-at-large for UHMS, Dr. Tillmans can provide insights on global approaches to post-COVID medical evaluations.

Dr. Tillmans holds a degree in Neuroscience, and a PhD in Human Biology from the University of Ulm, Germany. She oversees research initiatives in diving injury and fatality monitoring, population health, and diving physiology including acute diving injuries as well as long-term health effects of extreme exposures. She is an avid diver, dive safety officer, and dive instructor. Her experience spans recreational, technical, rebreather, scientific, and public safety diving. Build Your Own Surface Supplied Dive System: The Nuts, Bolts, and Fittings of Diving

Ever wondered how to set up your own surface-supplied diving system? This workshop is for you! Join industry pros like Paul Dimeo, James Bonovich, and Jim McAlister as they guide you through everything you need to know about building, modifying, and servicing your surface-supplied equipment. Whether you’re a seasoned DSO or just getting started, you’ll gain valuable insights on diving system components and how to put them together.

What You’ll Learn:

  • The Basics: We’ll start with an overview of different setups, like hookah vs. surface-supplied with communications, and walk you through essential components such as manifolds, valves, airlines, umbilicals, full-face masks, and more.
  • How to Build & Modify Equipment: Learn how to modify traditional scuba equipment to fit surface-supplied systems. We’ll explain various adaptors, fittings, and valves, and show you exactly what to buy and where to get it.
  • Hands-On Experience: You’ll leave with knowledge about how to service your equipment and function-test it. Plus, you’ll receive a take-home packet with all the key information organized for easy reference.

Workshop Highlights:

  • Pro-Led Training: Industry experts will walk you through everything from basic components to full system setups.
  • Types of Systems: Explore mobile air/comm carts, hookah setups, and even large-scale stationary systems like MBA’s KFT setup.
  • Equipment Breakdown: Get the lowdown on where to purchase adaptors, hoses, valves, and carts. We’ll cover everything, from stainless steel vs. brass to NPT vs. JIC terminology.

You’ll leave with all the resources you need to build or modify your own surface-supplied dive system—and know exactly where to buy the best components!

This workshop promises to be practical, hands-on, and packed with actionable insights for anyone involved in diving systems. Whether you’re building from scratch or upgrading existing equipment, this session will give you the skills and knowledge to do it right.

DSO Roundtable: ½ Day Workshop
Cost: $75
1:30 PM – 4:30 PM

Join Us for this year’s DSO Interactive Roundtable Workshop

What to Expect:

  • Guided Discussions: Each table will focus on key industry topics. You’ll dive into conversations like rescue drills, logging data, and gear servicing, sharing insights with your peers.
  • Collaborative Sharing: Groups will capture key takeaways on sticky notes. These will be displayed so you can walk around, explore different perspectives, and spark new ideas.
  • Powerful Wrap-Up: The session will close with a summary of major insights, giving you actionable strategies to take back to your own team.

Why Attend?

  • Your voice will be heard.
  • Learn real-world solutions from fellow professionals.
  • Walk away with actionable insights you can implement right away.

Key Topics:

  • Rescue drills – When and how often?
  • Logging drill data – Paper vs. digital?
  • Commercial vs. scientific dives – What’s different?
  • Hookah vs. surface supply – Which is better?

Don’t miss this chance to connect, collaborate, and grow! This is your opportunity to share, learn, and leave with new strategies and connections. Be part of a workshop that’s designed for engagement, insight, and action.
